Events in the Capitol Honoring Rosa Parks
October 28, 2005
6:15 p.m.
The viewing for Mrs. Rosa Parks in the United
States Capitol Rotunda will be open to the public from 6 p.m.
until midnight on Sunday, October 30, 2005, and from 7 a.m.
until 10 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2005. The designated
waiting area will be on the west side of the Capitol Reflecting
Pool.
For the duration of the event, First Street
between Constitution and Independence Avenues on the west
side of the United States Capitol will be closed.
In order to prepare for this event, tours of
the Capitol will be suspended on Saturday, October 29, 2005,
and will resume at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31, 2005.
Visitors are encouraged to call 202-225-6827 for recorded
information regarding the public viewing.
The United States Capitol
Police urges everyone to bring as few items as possible in
order to expedite security screening. Prohibited items include:
- Bookbags, oversized bags, suitcases,
or anything larger than a handbag
- Any audio and/or video recording devices
- Guns, knives, stunguns, ammunition,
razors, box cutters, or other weapons
- Mace, pepper spray, or any aerosol
sprays
- Cans and bottles
- Food or beverages
