PBS’ A Capitol
Fourth Concert 2005
On Monday, July 4, 2005, at 8:00 p.m., PBS’
A Capitol Fourth Concert will take place on the West Lawn
of the United States Capitol. There will also be a dress rehearsal
on Sunday, July 3, 2005, starting at 7:30 p.m. Public access
to the West Lawn will begin at 2:30 p.m. for both events.
Additional security precautions will be taken
to ensure the safety and security of those in attendance.
Anyone attending the events will be required to pass through
security screening before entering the event site. This will
include an administrative search of all bags, coolers, backpacks,
and closed containers. Strollers and folding chairs will also
be allowed into the event.
The following street closures will be in effect
starting at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 2nd until the conclusion
of the concert on Monday, July 4th:
- First Street, NW/SW from Constitution
to Independence Avenues
- Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from First Street
to Third Street
- Maryland Avenue, SW from First Street
to Third Street
Anyone planning to attend is encouraged to
use public transportation and to bring plenty of drinking
water. The United States Capitol Police would also like to
remind anyone planning to attend either event of the District
of Columbia law prohibiting the possession of any open alcoholic
beverages.
