On Sunday, May 30, 2004, at 8:00 p.m., the National Memorial Day Concert will take place on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. This concert is an annual event to honor American veterans and current members of the U.S. Armed Services. The West Lawn access gates will open to the public at 2:30 p.m.
There will be a dress rehearsal for this event on Saturday, May 29, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. In addition to the dress rehearsal, the public will be able to view the WWII Dedication Ceremony on jumbotron, from the West Lawn, as it takes place on the National Mall, at 2:00 p.m. The West Lawn access gates will open to the public at 12:00 noon for both events.
Due to events around the world and the mere nature of the event, additional security precautions will be taken to ensure the safety and security of those in attendance. Anyone attending events on the West Lawn must adhere to security screening procedures before entering the event site. This will include an administrative search of all bags, coolers, backpacks, and closed containers.
All attendees are encouraged to use public transportation and to bring plenty of drinking water. The United States Capitol Police would also like to remind everyone that DC law prohibits the possession of any open alcoholic beverages.
If there are any questions about these events or security precedures, you may contact the United States Capitol Police Public information Office at 202-224-1677.
